In response to demand, this one-day course will support A level English literature teachers in teaching students to improve their writing skills in examination and NEA essays. Teachers will have the opportunity to explore a range of explicit teaching and learning strategies and approaches as well as examples of ‘good’ responses.

By attending the training, participants will:


  • focus on how to explicitly teach writing skills such as clear topic sentences to ensure clarity

  • look at how to write effective opening paragraphs

  • spend time on how to support students to plan and structure their essays

  • be given models to enhance student understanding
