Event Description
Designed to support NQTs and teachers new to Early Years or Key Stage 1.

Delegates will have the opportunity to both secure their own phonic subject knowledge as well as develop familiarity with the guidance for phonics teaching through exploration of the ‘Letters and Sounds’ publication.

Delegates will explore key strands of the phonics curriculum through practical approaches and hands-on activities, explore the relationship between speaking and listening and early phonological awareness, and explore useful strategies for assessment of phonics.

Learning outcomes
By attending the course, participants will:

  • develop an understanding of the acquisition of phonological awareness and progression within the phonic phases 1-5

  • develop an understanding of Year 1 expectations for phonics and spelling in the National Curriculum

  • develop confidence using ‘Letters and Sounds’ to plan for and deliver the daily phonics teaching sequence

  • develop strategies for supporting children’s application of phonics across the curriculum develop an understanding of assessment strategies and tracking
