Event Description
Statistically three pupils in every classroom could have diagnosable mental ill health.

It is vital NQTs feel equipped to fulfil their role in supporting these pupils.

This involves attention promoting and supporting positive wellbeing in classroom processes and activities. Teachers need to make the necessary adjustments to support mental health needs.

This course will also introduce mindfulness as a coping, self-soothing mechanism and as an approach to supporting mental wellbeing.

Learning outcomes
By attending the course, participants will:

  • identify signs that can highlight a pupils vulnerability

  • learn about the psychology and physiology of stress

  • explore the impact of stress on children and how this can affect their behaviour and attitudes in the classroom

  • explore what is involved in developing a preventative curriculum to build pupil resilience, including through the new health education curriculum clarify the purpose, process and benefits of mindfulness techniques
