Event Description
Do you feel that pupils are passengers in their learning journey, or are they the captains of their own ship? We know that powerful learners are autonomous agents in their education, yet sometimes pupils develop a passivity that leads them to be very reliant on teacher input, validation and feedback. This can lead to pupils becoming more risk averse and more susceptible to having a discouraging mindset about their own capabilities and growth. Let's find a way to put them firmly at the helm.

This one-day course will explore current research and thinking on learning, brain development, engagement and motivation and how these can be implemented to benefit our pupils - empowering them and building their self-efficacy and independence. Combining theory and practice, we will discuss activities and strategies to cultivate, in our pupils, curiosity, courage, reflectiveness and an awareness of how they can improve and persevere in the face of challenges and setbacks.

The course will address the key principles and concepts related to increasing pupil progress, attainment, independence, love of learning and a Growth Mindset. This will include developing a feedback culture, positive learning attitudes and self-belief, resilience, improving self-awareness and focus. Let's turn "I can't" into "I can’t yet – but I will" and show our pupils the power that is in their hands!
