Event Description
For the effective implementation of Assessment for Learning (AfL) and development of a learning culture, more is required than the use of isolated strategies. What's needed is a shift in how everyone in the classroom talks about learning, potential and achievement, and how this translates into high-quality teaching and learning. Teaching assistants are well placed for shaping, reinforcing and supporting the learning classroom and the attitudes and beliefs pupils have about themselves and their learning journey.

This course provides an essential overview of key underlying principles of AfL and the role of good assessment procedures in effective planning and teaching. Delegates will gain an understanding of how language in the classroom and the feedback process can have positive impact on pupil’s progress and engagement.

Key aspects of day-to-day assessment will be explored, such as planning clear learning objectives, generating success criteria, giving pupils quality feedback and using effective questioning techniques.

Suitable for any TA that works with whole classes or with individuals, regardless of the age of the pupils or the subject area, as the ideas apply across the curriculum.
