Using SIMS to manage SEN (on school data)
Hertfordshire Development Centre, Stevenage, Robertson House, Six Hills Way
Academies and Schools (including EYFS)
Data Management Services / Special Educational Needs
This course will enable delegates to fully utilise the functionality of SEN in SIMS to enable the effective and efficient use in relation to the SEND Code of Practice.
This course has been designed to allow delegates to access their own school SIMS database remotely from our training room, enabling the maximisation of the delegate’s time. During the training delegates will be able to start work putting in place customisation of SIMS to reflect the provisions in place for pupils at their own school.
Delegates will learn how to record SEN data efficiently in SIMS. Utilising the functionality of reviews, provisions and events, a comprehensive SEN record can be created for individual pupils. Data from SIMS can also be extracted into HCC standard forms and in reports for data analysis. Specialist reports and letters relating to the pupil can be linked to the pupils' record. Customisation of SIMS will support efficient working, enabling quick access to frequently used areas of SIMS and the display of data on the homepage.
By attending the course, participants will:
- customise the homepage and utilise the inbuilt help functionality in SIMS
- run reports for data analysis, populate HCC standard forms, generate SEN review letters and schedule review meetings
- set up the SEN module in SIMS so it reflects what the school is providing for pupils
- enter reviews, provisions and events for a pupil so that the data is census-compliant
- attach notes and documents, and also add and link agents and agencies who work with the pupil, to the pupil’s record
Please note that we will send instructions (to the email address used to book a place onto this course) for setting up a computer in school to be connected to remotely during the session. Please ensure that you book a place on the course at least a week before it takes place to allow sufficient time for your network support provider/technician to set up the remote connection. If this is not done before you arrive at the course, you will have to use our training dataset instead during the session. We will also require a permission form to be signed by the headteacher or deputy headteacher and returned to us (or brought with you to the course), otherwise the remote connection will not be possible. In addition we will provide instructions for ensuring delegates have the appropriate permissions in SIMS for the course and details of some information to bring with them on the day.
