Event Description
This one-day course will focus on what ‘working at greater depth’ in Year 2 could look like for both English and mathematics. We will identify the aspects of the curriculum which need to be secured in order to assess a child as working at greater depth and explore samples of work which might exemplify this.

Teachers are asked to bring a small selection of English and mathematics work for a child whom they feel could be considered as working at greater depth, or as ‘on track’ to achieve this standard. These will be used to support the discussions over the day and for English at least, should include work from across the curriculum.

Looking ahead to the teacher assessment deadline, we will discuss how time can be used most effectively to support pupils to secure and demonstrate the learning required. We will draw upon the Teacher Assessment Framework (TAF) for Year 2 and the exemplifications materials which indicated a child was working at greater depth, as well as other materials. These will be used to help delegates form their own judgements for pupils they work with and identify steps to move them on further.

By attending this course participants will:

• use the Teacher Assessment Framework and other materials to clarify what ‘working at greater depth’ means for a child in Year 2 so that clear next steps can be identified

• share and discuss examples of work from children who might be considered working at greater depth in Year 2 in Reading, Writing and Mathematics, or those on track to be so 

• consider how to use the remaining time available to both secure the learning required and help pupils to demonstrate it in their work

• consider what would be good evidence to demonstrate pupils’ learning
Additional Information
Delegates should bring a range of work from a small selection of pupils they consider to be on track to be assessed as ‘working at greater depth’ at the end of Key Stage 1 / Year 2.
