Event Description
All teachers and leaders of primary Religious Education (RE) will explore the how? what? when? and why? of assessment in RE and put theory into practice.

Participants will develop methods to incorporate user friendly RE assessment to check pupils’ understanding, inform future teaching and help pupils embed and use their RE learning. Through self, peer and teacher assessment, this course aims to enable teachers of RE to move towards a manageable marking, recording and reporting system.

Sessions will focus on high-quality RE tasks designed to raise expectations and pupil attainment from EYFS to Upper Key Stage 2. Teachers will explore whole-school planning and assessment models to exemplify the use of the expected learning outcomes set out in the statutory Hertfordshire Agreed Syllabus. Model questions and teaching suggestions from ‘Religion for Today and Tomorrow’ will be shared as classroom-ready examples which can be adapted to any school setting.

By attending this course participants will:
• gain ideas, methods and confidence to plan, assess, mark and record RE assessment in a way that is manageable
• examine the methods of assessment outlined in the Hertfordshire Agreed Syllabus of Religious Education 2017-2022
• use age related criteria to set appropriate learning objectives
• use work scrutiny to identify good assessment practice and areas for improvement
