Event Description
As part of the HCC commissioned transition project, the Herts for Learning Early Years team are providing briefing sessions to share details of the project and the transition level of need pathway. The overall focus of the project is to ensure a smooth transition for all children, including those at risk of underachievement.

The aim of the briefing is for early years practitioners working in pre-school and day nursery settings to receive information on the transition level of need pathway and tools developed as part of the project. It will be important that practitioners gain an understanding of how this can support early identification of those children with potential barriers to learning and help enable them to experience a smooth transition to school.

Training objectives
Learning outcomes

  • understand children’s potential barriers to learning

  • support the early identification of children at risk of falling into the lowest attaining 20%

  • introduce the level of need criterion and tool to identify children that will require support with their transition into school

  • use the transition level of need tool to review the current cohort of children

Additional Information
Places are limited to 2 delegates per early years setting - it is suggested that these delegates are working with children aged 3 to 4 years old (due to move to school Nursery or Reception class).
