Event Description
Hear from Secondary Languages experts, exam boards and cultural agencies to identify steps to improve the teaching of languages in your school and outcomes for your students.

This year’s conference will be delivered online and will provide national and regional updates of key interest to Heads of Languages. As usual, we will welcome speakers from AQA and Edexcel for the latest updates and information on exams, languages advisers and education experts and a selection of cultural agencies.

David Moss, English and Modern Foreign Languages Adviser at BEST Midlands Education Associates, will be opening the conference delivering his keynote entitle:
The Grammar Toolkit Project
His presentation will look at how the same terminology can be used in the teaching of English and Modern Languages within secondary schools. Delegates will learn of how to support pupils in making links and comparisons between languages as they develop their understanding of language learning.

Joe Dale, Independent Modern Foreign Languages and Technology Consultant, will deliver a keynote entitled:
Practising speaking and writing in a blended learning context
In this interactive session Joe will demonstrate how and device, in or out of the classroom, can be harnessed to promote collaborating, create formative assessment opportunities and enable feedback to students to support their speaking and writing within Modern Languages.

In addition to these two keynotes, delegates will have the opportunity to attend sessions by

  • Judith Rowland-Jones, Head of Curriculum for Languages, AQA

  • Alistair Drewery, Languages subject advisor, Edexcel

  • José Antonio Benedicto, Secondary MFL Adviser, Consejería de Educación

  • The British Council

  • The Institute Français

  • Shadow Heroes

This conference is open to all but would be particularly suitable for all Heads of Department, Deputy Heads of Department and aspiring Heads of Department in Secondary, Middle and All-through schools.
