This course will enable participants to become familiar with, or refresh, their understanding of the statutory NQT induction process.

The course will explore how mentors can best support their NQTs, especially given the exceptional circumstances in the training year.

It will focus on the mentor's role and skills needed to be successful including:

• best practice in providing effective feedback
• the assessment process as a means of support and challenge

By attending the course, participants will:

• be informed about the statutory requirements of the induction period
• gain an understanding of the induction regulations and Teachers' Standards and expectations for NQTs
• have a clear overview of how to set up a mentoring programme including setting targets, reviewing progress and the assessment process
• examine methods of effective feedback throughout the induction year
