This year’s conference will provide national and regional updates of key interest to Heads of Languages. As usual, we will welcome speakers from exam boards for the latest updates and information on exams, languages advisers and education experts and a selection of cultural agencies.
Greg Horton, Advanced Skills Teacher and ‘Group Talk’ inventor, will be opening the conference with a keynote entitled:
Learning to Speak, Speaking to LearnGreg Horton is an Advanced Skills Teacher with over thirty years of classroom experience. He has also enjoyed roles as SSAT Lead Practitioner and Hampshire MFL Adviser. Greg’s session will offer practical classroom techniques and advice for developing a more natural and spontaneous kind of speaking. It will draw upon the methodology of the award-winning Group Talk project.
Lisa Panford, Senior Lecturer in PGCE Secondary MFL, St Mary’s University, will deliver a keynote entitled:
Decolonise your practice: discussion around resources in the Secondary MFL classroomLisa was Lead Practitioner and PCM at Greenford High School until 2021 where she led a whole school curriculum review focussing on issues of diversity and inclusion across the curriculum. Lisa is currently a member of the Race Equality Charter Self-Assessment Team at St Mary’s University and co-chairs ALL's SIG group 'Decolonise Secondary MFL'. Lisa’s session will focus on how teachers effectively deliver an anti-racist curium.

This conference is open to all but would be particularly suitable for all Heads of Department, Deputy Heads of Department and aspiring Heads of Department in Secondary, Middle and All-through schools.
