Event Description
A course to support headteachers and senior leaders to build their knowledge and understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

Effective Early Years education relies on leaders and practitioners that understand the importance of a relevant curriculum, a responsive environment and the development of play.

This course is designed to provide headteachers and senior leaders who are new to the Early Years Foundation Stage with an understanding of the requirements of the EYFS statutory framework and early years pedagogy to help them with monitoring in the EYFS and to be able to support EYFS colleagues most effectively.
Training objectives

  • to understand the structure and the requirements of the EYFS statutory framework and associated non-statutory guidance, including safeguarding and ratio requirements

  • to understand the central importance of play in young children’s learning and how teachers balance adult-planned activities with child-initiated learning

  • to consider what is most helpful to look for when observing and monitoring practice in the EYFS

  • to understand how to sequence the curriculum in the EYFS, ensuring that it inspires and challenges children and that it prepares them for the programmes of study in Key Stage 1

Learning outcomes

  • a clear understanding of the statutory framework for the EYFS

  • an ability to recognise effective practice in Nursery and Reception classrooms

  • confidence to support and challenge work to raise standards in the EYFS

  • an understanding of the curriculum in the EYFS
