Event Description
This course has been developed in response to raised expectations for spelling in the current curriculum.

It aims to support Key Stage 2 teachers to gain a deeper understanding of the spelling system and how to prioritise next steps for individuals, in order to accelerate their progress and confidence.

The course explores the issue of how to manage differentiating provision in an increasingly demanding classroom environment. During the day, we will unpick the aspects of spelling that often hold pupils back, and we will then look at approaches to support pupils' understanding in these areas.

A range of strategies and resources for planning, teaching and assessment will be provided.

The aims of the course are to:


  • support teachers to plan spelling effectively, to meet the needs of all pupils and accelerate their progress

  • take away practical approaches to supporting struggling spellers in Key Stage 2

  • develop the ability to effectively assess the gaps in pupils' learning and know how to address these

  • gain a deeper understanding of the spelling system and how to prioritise next steps for individuals, in order to accelerate progress

  • understand how to plan for the whole class whilst simultaneously meeting the needs of pupils with minor or significant gaps

Additional Information
Delegates will need to bring with them up to four writing books to the session of children causing you a concern in spelling.
