Event Description
Due to high demand we are pleased to offer an extra date for this training.

Fluency Sessions – the what, why, when and how. A day of training complete with a full suite of resources to support teachers back in school.

Schools are aware of the need to ensure pupils are ‘fluent’ with their mathematics knowledge and skills. Many are establishing fluency sessions to support this, but what does an effective fluency session look like?

This one-day course will unpick the purpose of fluency sessions and outline a possible structure. Resources will be given out on the day which schools can use as a starting point.

The course also includes the resources for an introductory staff meeting for launching back in school, so that maths subject leaders can get going straight away with implementing the sessions. A guidance booklet, also part of the suite, gives an index of all the resources.

Training objectives
Learning outcomes
• Consider the rationale for developing fluency sessions. Why do pupils need to be ‘fluent’ in maths and what do they need to be fluent with?
• Explore possible structures and ways of organising sessions
• Consider the appropriate content for fluency sessions, including what is appropriate for the year group and time in the academic year
• Take away resources for a staff meeting introduction to use with staff and a full set of fluency session materials to use and adapt with each year group
