Event Description
BUCKS EDUCATION PARTNERSHIP IS PROUD TO BE PART OF HERTS FOR LEARNING

Fluency sessions – the what, why, when and how.

A day of training which includes a complete suite of resources to support teachers back in school. Schools are aware of the need to ensure pupils are ‘fluent’ with their mathematics knowledge and skills. Many are establishing fluency sessions (also known as maths meeting or everyday fluency) to support this, but what does an effective session look like?

This one-day course will unpick the purpose of fluency sessions and outline a possible structure. Resources will be given which schools can use as a starting point. This includes 18 teacher PowerPoints, an introductory staff meeting for launching back in school and a guidance document, so that mathematics subject leaders can get going straight away with implementation. We will explore how to launch and implement fluency sessions effectively, so that they have maximum impact.

  • consider the appropriate content for fluency sessions, including what is appropriate for the year group and time in the academic year

  • explore possible structures and ways of organising sessions be given a complete suite of resources including a staff meeting introduction to use with staff and a full set of fluency session materials to use and adapt with each year group (all included within the cost of the training)
