Event Description
A great book is often the start of a magical journey in the primary classroom. Find the right book and the rest falls into place.

Following the success of last year’s Love That Book conference, the HfL English team intend to recreate the magic with an even bigger and better celebration of the best of children’s literature.

This conference aims to hook teachers up with the perfect text for them and their pupils; a text that will light a fire of interest and imagination and will allow reading and writing to flourish in the classroom. Throughout the day, HfL advisers will tempt delegates with tantalising texts and demonstrate the reading and writing opportunities that can be drawn from them. With creative examples of how these texts can be used in the classroom, delegates will be sure to leave enthused and eager to introduce their pupils to new and exciting text choices.

Authors and illustrators will join us throughout the day to share their thoughts on what makes a great book, and give some insights into their own reading and writing journeys. We will be hearing from Simon Smith, a book-savvy headteacher, who knows from experience how to whip up a book frenzy across a school. We will also be joined by representatives from schools involved in the Stevenage and North Herts Writing Project to hear about how this innovative approach to collaborative reading and writing across a large number of schools, has sparked a renewed love of literature for many children (and maybe a few teachers too!). We are delighted that Dianne Hofmeyr, author of Zeraffa Giraffa, will also be joining us.

In addition, a high-quality bookshop will be on hand to satisfy those book-browsing cravings.
Last, but by no means least, we will once again be showcasing the best of Herts practice through our ‘adopt a board’ initiative: come and browse stunning outcomes from a range of schools and year groups, all sparked by the love of a great book.

For those teachers who know that one way to a child’s heart (and mind) is through a great book, then this conference is not to be missed!
