Event Description
Statistically three pupils in every classroom could have diagnosable mental ill health. It is therefore vital NQTs feel equipped to adopt teaching approaches and strategies that will support emotional wellbeing and mental health. The session will explore how to teach about emotional wellbeing age appropriately, look at how to develop helpful habits that support wellbeing and also consider adjustments that might be made for vulnerable pupils. This course will include exploration of mindfulness for calming and self-soothing amongst wider approaches.

Learning outcomes
By attending the course, participants will:

  • identify signs that can highlight a pupils vulnerability

  • learn about the psychology and physiology of stress

  • explore the impact of stress on children and how this can affect their behaviour and attitudes in the classroom

  • explore what is involved in developing a preventative curriculum to build pupil resilience, including through the new health education curriculum clarify the purpose, process and benefits of mindfulness techniques
