Event Description
“Why do they always forget?” – a cry of frustration familiar to many who have taught Foundation Tier GCSE. There are many students who clearly have the potential to gain a Grade 4 or 5, but who seem to have a problem remembering mathematical facts and processes. The problem has been exacerbated this year by the need to recover learning lost to COVID.
Why is this? This is the question this course seeks to answer. We will explore how we can help these perfectly intelligent and capable young people turn things around and gain the grades they need to give their life-chances a kick-start.
If it is more convenient for schools, it will be possible for one person to attend in the morning and a different person to attend in the afternoon.
Learning outcomes
- to explore strategies to maximise achievement for the target group of students in the face of COVID learning loss
- explore teaching strategies and activities through which students can deepen their understanding of Foundation Tier content
- work out ways to help students recall and use key mathematical knowledge and processes
- explore ways to improve students’ abilities and confidence in problem-solving
- gain a thorough understanding of how the papers are assessed, and the good habits needed for students to approach them successfully
