Code: 19ENG/034P Securing greater depth in reading and writing at Key Stage 1

This course will support schools to tailor their curriculum to meet the needs of, and challenge, their more able writers.

It will cover the identification of pupils who, despite attaining well, are at risk of ‘falling behind’ (Ofsted 2015).

Delegates will go on to explore a range of highly engaging texts and approaches that will inspire and develop technical skills, individual voice and style. In Key Stage 1 rich source materials will be used to cultivate independent flexible approaches to writing allowing pupils to adapt texts.

Through engagement with this course, delegates will consider how the exemplified approaches may be used to develop a writers' culture in class that marries high expectations with high-quality outcomes for all.

Code: 19SBM/011A Single Central Record training (LIMITED SPACES)

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people is one of the most important aspects of schools' work. One element of this is to carry out and record robust recruitment checks. Ofsted inspectors scrutinise the school's Single Central Record (SCR) during inspections. They are likely to be interested both in whether it is compliant with the requirements outlined in Keeping Children Safe in Education, and in the school's culture and approach to maintaining it.

Changing requirements over time often lead to questions about how best to maintain the SCR, and about compliance and best practice.

This half-day course will remind delegates of the importance of meeting the statutory requirements. It will allow delegates to explore what constitutes an effective SCR.

The session is for anyone with responsibility for establishing, updating or maintaining the school's SCR. The training will comprise presentation, discussion and practical activity.

Code: 19PSE/020S Subject leader RSHE secondary workshop

Please note, this course was previously advertised as 'Delivering relationships and sex education and health education, core training / next steps for subject leaders'

Statutory RSE and health education is fast approaching. Building on from our conference in March, this course will help schools to assess their current provision against the required content and explore good practice in delivering these areas. Approaches to effective parent/carer, pupil and staff consultation are an important component that we will explore. This course will support subject leads to identify any required changes to curriculum content, classroom approaches, policy and processes in order to deliver the mandatory curriculum.
