Code: 19ASS/022P Assessment moderation cluster for teachers of Year 2: cluster 11 - North Watford and Abbots Langley

These summer term cluster meetings will give Year 2 teachers an opportunity to discuss their evidence for Key Stage 1 teacher assessment with other teachers and with assessment advisers. This will be particularly useful in identifying any gaps in pupils’ work that need to be addressed before the final assessments are made. In each subject area (reading, writing and maths) we recommend that teachers bring evidence for a pupil who they expect to achieve the expected standard at the end of KS1, but who has not yet quite secured the standard, and for a pupil who they expect to be working at greater depth within the expected standard, but who has not quite secured it. Teachers may also wish to bring evidence for a pupil who is expected to be working towards the standard or a pupil for whom it is difficult to make the judgement. It is advised that teachers take the opportunity to focus on pupils who are on the cusp of achieving a standard, or pupils that are more difficult to assess, for example because they have an unusual profile of strengths and weaknesses in their learning, as these scenarios tend to lead to the most fruitful conversations. The discussions will focus on the 2019 Teacher Assessment Framework (TAF), as this is the statutory document for end of KS1 assessment.

Code: H07/05/19 Exclusions

This training session equips governors to be able to sit on a governors' Disciplinary Committee panel which is a statutory requirement in the case of certain types of school exclusion, including any permanent exclusion. We recommend that panel members are re-trained every 2 years.

Outcomes

Governors will:

  • gain an understanding of and insight into the exclusion process (including the statutory procedures that a governing board must follow when reviewing a headteacher's decision to exclude a child) and the processes followed by the Independent Review Panel
  • receive an update on exclusion legislation and guidance
  • understand the different responsibilities of the headteacher, governing board and Local Authority in the exclusion process.

Outline

Excluding a pupil involves a statutory process that governors should ensure they perform legally and effectively. There will be a mixture of tutor input, group activity/discussion and an opportunity to ask questions.

Code: SR63 Safer Recruitment (EVENT FULL)

This nationally accredited 'All Day Safer Recruitment Training Session' is suitable for governors and staff of schools and academies - please check costs below.

This is suitable for those who have had no previous training.
If you have attended Safer Recruitment training within the past 5 years there is a separate 'Refresher' course for those who wish to update their accreditation. (Please check if you are unsure).

The principles and actions for safer recruitment derive from the Bichard Inquiry which was formed following the tragic events of the 'Soham case' (2004).
The Inquiry's Report highlighted flaws and shortcomings in the recruitment process that allowed Ian Huntley to be employed as a caretaker at Soham Community School.
The Bichard Inquiry recommended that all governing boards have members who have been safer recruitment trained and that appointment panels for school leadership posts include at least one governor who has been safer recruitment trained.
This course is based on the Safer Recruitment Consortium national programme.

Delegates will gain:

  • an understanding of the safer recruitment process
  • recognition as a safer recruiter
  • certificate to confirm 5 year accreditation as a safer recruiter.
Please note that attendance to the whole day is required in order to achieve accreditation

  • raise awareness of the Bichard Inquiry Report and the safer recruitment framework
  • look at data and trends in schools'/academies' incidents of abuse
