Following excellent feedback for the workshops on offer at this year’s Love That Book conference, we are delighted to be able to take a number of these workshops ‘on the road’ this summer.

Workshop title: Last Stop on Market Street’ by Matt De La Pena

In this workshop, Kathy will use the wonderful, award-winning picture book ‘Last Stop on Market Street’ by Matt De La Pena. Delegates will explore the poetic language and poignant themes of this book by participating in a range of engaging activities.

The session will be packed with ideas for a Key Stage 1 classroom, across the curriculum, showcasing ways to captivate children with a book that teachers will love, ensuring that their pupils will love it too.

Code: 18NQT/043P Primary NQT induction programme for NQTs in KS1 and KS2 (South)

Providing development and support for NQTs during their induction period.

A wide-ranging programme tackling key aspects of the induction period and promoting good progress against the Teachers' Standards.

Sessions enable NQTs to receive high-quality training, share experiences and explore strategies for managing the pressures of their first year.

Day 1: Managing (whole-day) Overview of the induction year, behaviour for learning, feedback for progress, liaising effectively with parents and working effectively with teaching assistants.
Day 2: Developing (whole-day) Responding to pupils' diverse needs, the interactive classroom, drama techniques across the curriculum and a toolkit for effective time management.
Day 3: Refining (half-day) Good to outstanding, preparing for NQT+1, subject leadership, reflection on the induction period and professional self review.

Code: 19HUM/001P Promoting pupils' understanding of British values through primary history and geography (Cancelled)

This course explores engaging and practical ways in which pupils’ understanding of democracy, the rule of law, and the importance of individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs can be developed in primary history and geography.

The course will explore a range of active ‘hands-on’ age-appropriate ideas and resources that develop pupils’ understanding of modern Britain.

Code: SRF45 Safer Recruitment Refresher (LIMITED SPACES)

It is a Hertfordshire recommendation that all safer recruiters receive refresher training to remain accredited. This 2 hour training session is only to be attended by those who have previously completed the full day ‘Safer recruitment’ training and whose 5 year accreditation is due to / very recently expired (please check if you are unsure). This course is available for governors and staff to attend. Please note: Pre-course reading materials are available to all delegates attending this session to read in preparation for the date.

This course is designed for new administrators or those wishing to refresh their knowledge of the end-of-year procedures in SIMS.

This course can be followed up by attending one of the "SIMS End of Year on school data" sessions for those who wish to work on their own data and complete the process with guidance from a data management consultant.

A second delegate from the same school, sharing a computer, will be charged a discounted rate. HfL have allocated six discounted places for schools sending a second delegate, on a first-come, first-served basis.

Code: 19DMS/016P SIMS End of Year - primary (on school data)

This course, which follows on from the 'SIMS End of Year' course, will allow delegates to carry out the processes learned on that course and contained in the end-of-year documentation we send to schools, on their own school data, with guidance from a data management consultant. Delegates can book onto both sessions, some of which are on the same day, if required. Delegates with experience of the end-of-year procedures may choose to only attend this session to complete the process.

Delegates should have a basic familiarity of SIMS and have their own login to the system. Please note that we will send instructions (to the email address used to book a place onto this course) for setting up a computer in school to be connected to remotely during the session.

Code: 18NQT/028S Subject specific training for secondary NQTs and trainees: MFL

This unique, subject-level programme for secondary MFL NQTs and trainees offers intensive and specialist MFL training and development from recognised experts in their subject.

It will develop subject expertise and practice in the classroom.

NQTs will be provided with a range of resources and strategies to try out at school as well as having the opportunity to network and share strategies with other NQTs and trainees teaching MFL.
