Code: DMS/20/377/A SIMS Census preparation (on school data) PM

This course will allow delegates to carry out the processes contained in the school census documentation we send to schools, on their own school data, enabling delegates to complete the process with guidance from a data management consultant. Delegates will be in a quiet, uninterrupted environment.

Delegates should have a basic familiarity of SIMS and have their own login to the system. Shortly before the course, delegates' schools will be provided with instructions for setting up the remote connection. It is the school’s responsibility to ensure that these instructions are followed and it should be noted that failure to do so may result in the delegates being unable to work on the school’s own data during this session.

Code: MAT/20/593/P Nimble with Number; Year 1 Fluency Project (Cambridgeshire)

The primary maths team are running a summer term project in Cambridgeshire for two delegates from each participating project school. This project has run successfully with both Year 1 and 2 pupils. Given the timing of the summer 2020 cohort, we are keen to run the project specifically with year 1 to ensure pupils are ready to successfully tackle the content when they move to Year 2 and beyond.

Since first launching in 2015, 88 schools have participated in the six week project across Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire. Over 500 pupils have been assessed, and on average the impact on pupils’ number sense equated to:

  • 9+ additional months progress overall for all Year 1 and Year 2 pupils*
  • 11+ additional months progress overall for prior low attaining Year 1 and Year 2 pupils*
  • 89% increase in automaticity overall for KS1 pupils identified as PPG learners
*Source: KS1 Fluency Project data using the Hattie effect size methodology

This six week project for a Year 1 teacher and phase/subject leader includes:
  • a one-day launch session,
  • a mid-project twilight
  • a final ‘celebratory’ half-day cluster
  • a two-hour, in-school mid-project visit where elements of the project can be tailored towards specific school needs
