This session will update primary assessment leaders on any recent developments in any aspect of assessment, including any changes to national data tools (ASP, IDSR, FFT) or local data tools (Hertfordshire assessment profile, AM7).

The changes in Ofsted’s approaches to evaluating assessment practice in the classroom or the use of data in the new Education Inspection Framework and the key implications of these changes will be discussed.

The latest trends in national and local data and any other significant national or local developments in assessment will also be explored.

This course is dependent on risk for ALL establishment staff that use ladders on site. The areas covered include: regulations for working at height, risk assessments for working at heights, inspection of ladders/stepladders, selection of correct type of ladder/stepladder, safe use of ladders/stepladders and advice regarding area to access the sites low roof/s. Please note this training is run by Hertfordshire County Council and has differing booking conditions from the Herts for Learning terms and conditions: bookings cancelled within four weeks of the course date will be charged at full price (unless a replacement is found) - bookings will be charged at full rate for non-attendees.

Code: GOV/19/188/A Governors' Understanding Education - a Look to the Curriculum: Hertfordshire Governors' Annual Conference 2019

Join Herts for Learning (HfL) and Hertfordshire Association of School Governors (HASG) at the 2019 annual governor conference. This year’s conference will focus on the governors' understanding of the curriculum. The day will allow delegates to listen to two keynote speakers, attend up to three seminars as well as providing a chance to meet with governors' from a wide range of settings, providing excellent networking opportunities.

The first keynote will be delivered by Professor Mick Waters who will be speaking on the governors' role in curriculum effectiveness. As an education consultant, Mick works with authorities across the UK on innovative approaches to learning. Mick has worked at the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority as Director of Curriculum, taking a leading role in helping schools to rethink their approach to curriculum design and influencing national policy on aspects of the national curriculum.

Closing the conference, Rachel Macfarlane will be highlighting the role of governors' in growing great schools. Rachel joined the HfL Executive team as Director of Education Services in April 2018, bringing with her a wealth of experience from an extensive and varied career in education. As Director of Education Services, Rachel is the strategic lead for all HfL's education services to schools across all phases.

There will be a wide range of seminars to choose tailored specifically around the curriculum and covering all phases. Delegates will receive an email asking them to pre-select their seminar choices once they have registered. 

Please note the conference will begin at 9:15am in the Oak Room, refreshments will be available from 8:30am.

This course is aimed at new users to Analyse School Performance (ASP). It will support delegates to navigate the site and to interpret their 2019 school results (Key Stage 2 and, if available, Key Stage 1).

Delegates will be supported to make the most of the tools and options available within ASP, such as filtering the data and drilling down to individual pupils, and to explore the key points for school improvement.

The course will also explore the key features of the Inspection Data Summary Report (IDSR) although it is not known if this will have been updated to 2019 data by the date of this course.

These sessions will focus on exploring accuracy of assessment judgements against age-related expectations (focusing mainly on HfL assessment criteria, although also relevant where schools are using different assessment systems), as well as promoting good formative assessment practise that can be built into everyday learning. They also provide an excellent opportunity for Year 3 and Year 4 teachers to work together to achieve greater consistency in standards. The meetings will focus on assessment of maths and reading.

The tools and reports available in FFT Aspire continue to evolve to give schools a powerful insight into pupil attainment and progress.

This course will help delegates to use it to its full potential by exploring how to use its full range of features, including analysis of attainment and progress at Key Stage 2 (using the latest 2019 data), the Governor Dashboard and Extended Dashboard, term of birth analysis, pupil estimates to inform target-setting and the powerful Student Explorer.

Delegates should use their FFT Aspire username and password that gives access to pupil level data. We strongly advise that delegates check that these log-in details are working well in advance of the course.

Please note that this session is offered at a specially discounted rate for schools that have subscribed to FFT Aspire via Herts for Learning.
