Code: HAS/20/150/A Design and Technology Core Level Standards for Health and Safety (LIMITED SPACES)

Health and Safety legislation requires that staff are competent to undertake their role and manage health and safety, for those involved in design and technology (D&T) at secondary level then it’s crucial that teachers and support staff can identify hazards, assess risks and effectively manage these.

D&T has training standards approved by the Training and Development Agency (TDA) and published by DATA ‘Health and Safety Training Standards in Design and Technology’. These standards provide a nationally recognised health and safety qualification which is fully compliant with the requirements of BS4163:2014. All teachers and support staff should meet these standards before they use, supervise or teach others to use the equipment, processes and tools used in D&T.

This core level course is delivered by a Registered Design and Technology Health and Safety Consultant (RDTHSC) and is considered essential for all involved in teaching design and technology at secondary level.

It is recommended that refresher training should be undertaken on a regular basis and no later than 5 years from initial training.
