Herts for Learning CPD Hub

COVID-19 update 17th March 2020

Dear Headteacher,

At Herts for Learning, we recognise and understand the particular challenges that Headteachers and Chairs of Governors are facing as they deal with the Covid-19 emergency. You have an unenviable task balancing government guidance with the concerns and fears of staff, parents and young people.
Herts for Learning (HfL) is your company and I would like to assure you that we are doing all we can to support you in this difficult time. We continue to offer as full a range of services as possible and are actively planning for how these services can be delivered remotely. We are also working closely with HCC and PHE to ensure that all advice to schools is clear and consistent.
As you might expect, there are two key areas where schools are contacting us: HR and Technology. Whilst our service desks are functioning at full capacity both teams are receiving a high volume of calls. We are getting to all calls but please note it might take slightly longer to answer calls than would otherwise be the case. We are monitoring the situation carefully and will flex resource wherever we can to support schools.
Following the latest Government advice, we have taken the decision to suspend all HfL training with effect from the end of today (Tuesday 17 March). This will apply to all training to be delivered before 27 April. It is possible that the suspension will be extended, and further communications will follow when the situation becomes clearer. No cancellation fees will apply for any training due to be delivered during the period of suspension. Delegates will not be required to contact HfL to cancel their bookings, this will be done by HfL. We will be contacting all delegates booked onto courses planned before Easter to ensure that they are aware of this suspension.
We are urgently working to develop a programme for digital delivery of HfL training. We expect to offer a reduced training programme to schools and settings post Easter and are examining options for time-sensitive events planned in the next two weeks. We are not yet able to provide details, but these will be communicated as soon as we are able. As you may be aware, HfL is already committed to a strategy of digital by default. This crisis means that our plans are being accelerated at a faster rate than any of us might have imagined.
We will continue to adapt what we do to meet your changing needs as this emergency unfolds. In doing so, we will remain mindful of the well-being of our staff and those around them. To help us and you, we have asked all staff of all services to plan for the delivery of their work over the next 6 weeks, and to liaise with you to agree where support can be delivered remotely if it would better suit the circumstance of the school. Of course, where a school remains open, and the service is best delivered through a visit, this will continue to be our approach until advised otherwise by PHE.
Thank you once again for your support of HfL and for your understanding as we adapt our service to these extraordinary events
With best wishes
Andrew
