Free to attend: Race inequality in education: acknowledging the problem and strategies for auditing
This free to attend briefing for headteachers and governors looks at evidence of race inequality across UK society and the education system, nationally and in Hertfordshire, to highlight features of systemic racism. In these sessions, we will explore the importance of language, the concepts of unconscious bias and white privilege and how schools can address inequality, initially through auditing their provision and inviting discussion about race, as key steps on the journey towards anti-racism and eliminating race inequality.
The key aims of this event are:
• to address evidence of systemic racism
• to address key terminology and concepts
• to motivate leaders to prioritise race equality as a priority in their schools
• to support schools with strategies for auditing provision/representation and lived experience of BAME school community members
